Seven Charged with Illegal Gun Sales in OC

Seven people, including a convicted sex offender, have been charged in a gun-trafficking scheme in Orange County, according to an indictment unsealed Thursday.

Six of the seven defendants have been arrested, with four men due in a Santa Ana federal courtroom Thursday for their initial appearance in the 11-count indictment handed down Oct. 2.

Undercover agents made multiple gun buys from Aug. 21 through Sept. 18 in the six-week investigation that netted 68 firearms, about 2,000 rounds of ammunition and 1.3 pounds of methamphetamine, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Thirty of the seized guns did not have serial numbers, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors accused all the defendants of illegally possessing guns and some of them for doing so as convicted felons. Some defendants are accused of conspiring to sell such weapons as a .40-caliber Glock pistol, a .243-caliber Savage Arms rifle and a Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun.

Pedro Javier Villalobos, 22, of Santa Ana, was accused of arranging to sell the weapons, with other defendants handling the transactions, many of which were done in Santa Ana, including at a tattoo parlor, according to the indictment.

Other defendants named in the indictment include Michael Rivera Delgado, 38, of Anaheim, and Rosember Jimenez Jr., 29, of Santa Ana, who has previously been convicted of statutory rape and aggravated assault on a firefighter or peace officer, according to prosecutors.
