A series of sidewalks will be installed along streets in Carver Tract, an unincorporated area of Riverside County between Indio and Coachella, under a project approved this week, county Supervisor V. Manuel Perez said Wednesday.
The Carver Tract Sidewalk Safety Improvement Project will install sidewalks along the south side of Leyte Avenue, the north side of Corregidor Avenue, the north side of Lingayen Avenue between Van Buren and Luzon streets and the west side of Luzon Street between Avenue 48 and Leyte Avenue. The project will also include the installation of a concrete curb, gutter and driveway ramps, according to Dennis Acuna, Riverside County traffic engineer.
The project will cost an estimated $1.15 million with funding from the county through the Senate Bill 821 Bicycle and Facilities Funding Program.
The Board of Supervisors approved the plan on Tuesday.
The county Transportation Department will complete the sidewalk design plans and solicit bids for a construction contractor, said Darin Schemmer, spokesman for Perez.
Construction is expected to begin summer 2020.
County officials said the sidewalks will improve pedestrian access to community services such as Martin Van Buren Elementary School, Coachella Valley Rescue Mission, Fred Young Farm Labor Center and Rancho Las Flores Park.
“Carver Tract is a small, older neighborhood that has been long neglected, with a lack of basic infrastructure such as sidewalks, curb and gutter and street lighting,” Perez said. “I commend the Transportation Department for finding a way to get this done to bring infrastructure that has been long needed for Carver Tract residents.”
