Authorities ID Woman Found Dead at Whittier Senior Housing Facility

Authorities Wednesday released the name of a woman whose body was found at a senior housing project in Whittier after a carbon monoxide detector alarm was activated, while awaiting confirmation on the cause of her death.

Esther Manyara, 74, was found dead at the Hoover residential facility in the 7000 block of Greenleaf Avenue around 1 p.m. last Thursday.

An autopsy was conducted and the cause of death was listed as “deferred pending additional investigation,” according to the coroner’s office. But coroner’s spokeswoman Sarah Ardalani told the San Gabriel Valley Tribune that foul play was not suspected.

Whittier police Lt. Jay Tatman told the newspaper that a maintenance worker used a key to get into the apartment where the alarm was ringing and discovered Manyara’s body.

There’s no word yet if carbon monoxide was detected in the building.
