An Inglewood man who stole a government vehicle and charged more than $15,000 on federal government gas cards for fuel he then sold to friends at a discount while employed by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs was sentenced Monday to two years probation.
Kyle Sidney Freedman Flournoy, 35, was also ordered by Chief U.S. District Judge Virginia A. Phillips to serve six months of home detention and pay restitution of more than $18,000, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Ian Yanniello.
Flournoy pleaded guilty in Los Angeles federal court three months ago to a single count of conspiracy to steal government property, which carries a possible five-year maximum prison sentence.
The defendant admitted stealing a VA vehicle and renting it out to associates — including gang members — for $30 in 2013. He also admitted unlawfully using 11 different federal government gas cards over the course of several weeks to charge more than $15,000 in gasoline. Flournoy gave the fuel to others who paid him 60 cents on the dollar, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
