Worker Dies in Accident at Lumber Company in Costa Mesa

A 28-year-old man was killed while working as an employee at a lumber company in Costa Mesa, coroner’s officials said Saturday.

The worker was identified as Ricardo Castorena of Santa Ana, according to the Orange County coroner’s office.

Castorena was pronounced dead at the scene at the Ganahl Lumber Company, 1100 Bristol St., at 9:43 p.m. Friday.

A watch commander at the Costa Mesa Police Department confirmed that there had been a death at the location and referred all inquiries to California’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration office.

Castorena died after a large pile of wood fell and trapped him, according to sources at the scene, who added that he was pinned against a forklift by several thousand pounds of lumber.
