Authorities Tuesday identified a man who was fatally shot while driving a Mercedes-Benz that crashed into a railroad right-of-way in the Willowbrook area last weekend.
Jayson McKinley, 32, of Los Angeles was shot about 7 a.m. Saturday at East 118th Street and Willowbrook Avenue and died at a hospital, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies responding to a call of a traffic crash found McKinley inside the vehicle with several gunshot wounds to his upper body, said Sgt. Edmo Luna of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
Lt. Barry Hall of the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau said McKinley was shot near his residence, and he may have been trying to escape from his attacker or attackers when the black four-door Mercedes crashed.
No suspect or vehicle descriptions were released.
McKinley’s car crashed through the fencing and over the right-of-way of the Metro A Line train, said Ramon Montenegro of the Sheriff’s Transit Services Bureau. The tracks were closed for more than seven hours while detectives investigated the crash.
Anyone with information on the case was urged to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
