SoCalGas, Los Angeles Kings Help Donate Hygiene Kits to Housing Nonprofit

Southern California Gas Co. and the Los Angeles Kings staff, fans and mascot Bailey Thursday held a donation event for the nonprofit LA Family Housing to deliver hundreds of hygiene items for people transitioning out of homelessness.

SoCalGas and the Sempra Energy Foundation also donated $50,000 to LA Family Housing, which helps people transition from homelessness into permanent housing.

“SoCalGas recognizes the importance of supporting our communities and especially those struggling with or on the verge of homelessness,” said Gillian Wright, senior vice president of customer services at SoCalGas and board chair at LAFH. “People from every walk of life are in need of the basics — many people (are) seeking assistance for first time.”

Each year, LAFH distributes 12,000 hygiene kits to people who are unhoused, living in temporary housing and to families who have recently moved into a place of their own.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the nonprofit needs an additional 3,000 kits each month to meet the demand, according to LAFH.

“The LA Kings and SoCalGas enjoy a tremendous partnership, and it is exciting to come together during this difficult, unique time to assist our community,” said Jennifer Pope, the vice president of community relations and team services for the Kings. “Collectively, with our fans, the entire Kings family can help support these efforts and supporting LAFH.”

For the donation drive, participants could either mail in supplies, purchase items from LAFH’s Amazon wish list or attend the event at LAFH’s North Hollywood headquarters to drop off their donated items.

LAFH accepted new items such as cloth face coverings, thermometers, shampoo, conditioner, body wash and more.
